Our
Impact
We've created systems to transparently measure our impact, ensuring all actions count. We collaborate with leading researchers, harnessing their knowledge to reflect and learn about our reach. We amplify our impact by equipping others with the tools and financial resources they need to create lasting change.
SAFE study
Giwyn was a partner in the SAFE study. Published in The Lancet, the study reviewed the effectiveness of self-managed abortion with accompaniment support. We followed the experience of women in Argentina and Nigeria who requested information on self-managed medication abortion. Participants used misoprostol alone or with mifepristone.
The study found that self-managed medication abortion with accompaniment support was highly effective. We found it was just as effective as clinician-managed medication abortion for pregnancies less than 9 weeks.
Cultivating changemakers
GIWYN have pioneered reproductive justice work in Africa. Our Ms Rosy hotline and community outreach programs were some of the first on the continent, inspiring countless others and showcasing the power of African feminists. We've trained and mentored over 15,000 individuals and organizations across Africa, empowering them to become trainers and project designers. Our coalition members have also participated in exchange visits to further develop their capacity. We've provided retraining to staff and the coalition and collaborated with lawyers to develop robust security protocols for SRHR hotlines.
Grant making
We are committed to becoming Africa's leading reproductive justice fund manager. We have a track record of supporting grassroots organisations through performance-managed funding. Our risk-management approach works through the lifecycle of a grant, including upstream prevention of financial, safeguarding and performance risks.
